E.ON power plant Walchensee

29.03.2015

Together with the scientific divers from Submaris I spent a weekend on the Walchensee, a beautiful mountain lake in Bavaria. Contracted by E.ON, the task was to prepare a geological and hydrological survey inside of a submerged tunnel, connecting the lake with the hydropower plant. The submersible JAGO from GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel than had to be squeezed through metal bars 2 meters apart. JAGO is 2,02 meters wide... The cave dive and subsequent survey went exceptionally well, JAGO and divers surfaced in the so-called 'water castle', a massive building on the side of the mountain, containing a giant water reservoir, 40 meters wide and 25 meters deep. More information about this project you find on www.submaris.com.
